Safety Tips for a Southeast Michigan Property Manager

A lot of people who own rental properties don't realize that there is an element of danger involved in this business. Just think about it for a minute. Your Southeast Michigan property manager has to deal with your tenants on a daily basis, this is especially true if you own a lot of rental properties. Anytime someone is in a profession that requires them to deal with people, there is some danger involved. You just can't predict how people are going to act in certain circumstances. Below are a few tips that should help your Southeast Michigan property management professionals stay safe.

  1. Keep Everyone Updated. One of the occasional duties required of your Southeast, Michigan property manager is going over to a tenant's residence to check out a maintenance issue, ask for late rent or a number of other reasons. This can be dangerous if the tenant is upset about something, bipolar or mentally unstable. Of course, the manager has no way to know the state of mind of the tenant he/she is about to visit. Therefore, it's extremely important for property management professionals to keep everyone in the office updated about where they're going.

  2. Pair Up. Sometimes, property managers in Southeast Michigan have tenants who make them feel uncomfortable. It may not be that they are doing anything wrong, but may be more of a "gut" feeling that something is amiss. If this is the case, it's a good idea for mangers to pair up any time they have to deal with this particular tenant, whether it's in the office or out in the field.

  3. Have a Code Word. There may be an instance when your Southeast Michigan property manager will be in the office working and have an irate tenant come in. Just in case, it's always good for those who provide property management in Southeast Michigan to have a code word or phrase to signal help when they need it. The manager can always pick up the phone and say something like "I need the black file I left on your desk" to let another office professional know they need backup immediately.Â
